Mexico’s unique spa experiences
There’s no better way to relax, rejuvenate body and spirit, and find that fountain of energy than to experience some of Mexico’s fine spas.
According to historian Logan Hawkes, Mexico has a long and glamorous history in Spa Travel. Among thse traditional therapies is the temazcal, a type of sweat lodge that originated in ancient Mesoamerica. The lodge was usually dome-shaped and contructed of volcanic rock. Its name comes from the Nahuatl word temazcalli, meaning “house of heat”), or possibly from the Aztec words “bath house”. It was used as part of a spiritual ceremony thought to purify or heal the mind, body and spirit.

The Hotel Balneario San Juan Cosalá is a located on the lakeshore and features a hotel, balneario water park and the Spa Termal Tlalocan. Established more than 50 years ago, it is among the area’s best known landmarks.
The complex offers a restaurant serving traditional Mexican dishes, a family-friendly hotel with pool access and satellite TV, jacuzzi’s and kitchenettes in some rooms.
The Spa Termal Tlalocan uses it thermal water (with its beneficial mineral emissions) to offer hydrothrapy, massages and various natural therapies and beauty treatments.
